Welcome

Happy New Year and welcome to my Antique Canes NewsLetter. The Christmas season is done and dusted, the party season is just a receding memory and now it's time to go antiquing - starting with the chic, ever-stylish Battersea Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair, 19 to 24 January. If you want to be on the biting edge of cool antiques then join me, the fashionistas and the arty designer set by clicking on the button below to print your e-ticket.

I will be taking a great display of sword canes, defence canes, canes with semi-precious stone handles (including Blue John) and walking sticks with animal heads carved in ivory and wood. If you have any special requests please email or phone me. See you there!

Sherlock Holmes MovieSherlock Holmes - see the film and then buy the stick!

Having been forewarned, I was at the front of the queue at my local Odeon cinema on Boxing Day to see the new Sherlock Holmes film, starring Robert Downey Jr. I was not disappointed. It is a ripping yarn of Holmes and Watson given the full Warner Brothers treatment, care of director, Guy Ritchie. Ritchie is better known for his redefinition of modern-day London gangster chic and has, on this occasion, turned his attention to vice, crime and men's accessories of Victorian London.

It was full of my favourite things ... walking canes worn with attitude, men in braces, sword sticks being used to vanquish enemies, well-tailored waistcoats, the art of stick fighting used to dispel a crowd of ruffians, chaps being chaps, baddies being villainous foes and in one scene even ladies wearing braces. Please enjoy Dr Watson showing how to sport a cane with wit, vigour and a slight sneer, in this promotional poster for the film.

Not so much: "Elementary, my dear Watson", as "Watson, I deduce from your inimitable style, that you recently purchased a cane from Mr Breeze."

Canes we are looking for...

We are actively seeking canes with animal heads carved in wood and ivory.

Especially automaton head canes which roll their eyes or open their mouths. Please telephone or email to discuss.
